Another good article and very important information, this is what clever goalkeeping is about!!!!!. I have read all your articles and I think we need you to publish that book mate. Thanks Grim

nothing worse though than a keeper who dominates his/her D when he/she doesn’t need to.

the keeper we played against on Sunday gave away 1 stroke (should’ve been 2) and should have had yellows on both occasions. Your defenders are there for a reason. no point getting out of position if they can deal with it

I have to disagree with the “MINE” bit…. You need to either shout “KEEPERS” or shout YOUR NAME! Shouting MINE is dangerous territory because how is a defender with his back towards the call going to know if the call has come from his keeper, another defender or worse still, an attacking player! This will always lead to confusion, therefore NEVER shout MINE!

@AJB142
Disagree mate sorry. My trainer tells me this also and I can see why. But you should know your defense well enough and they should know you. They should be able to recognise your voice/know its you their. I usually shout there name to get there attention followed by ‘MINE’.. ‘TO ME’. Or ‘MINE, MINE, MINE’ very loudly, puts everyone off even the oppo.
Shouting ‘Keepers’/'keeper’ is like your talking about yourself in 3rd person. A field player doesn’t (I’ve not heard them) shout ‘Midfielders!’ when they want the ball..they would shout ‘Mine’, ‘To me’, person’s name then their location etc
It might be what your saying AJB142 is the best thing to do, but for me it just doesn’t feel like the right thing to shout. I think it would be more confusing to my defense if i said that, they would look around and think, ‘what other keeper? where?’

Great article Grim, more please! :)
